Land Acknowledgment

We wish to acknowledge that the land on which we work, live, and play, is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Attiwonderonk, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabeg, and the Metis people. We honour the enduring relationship between the Indigenous Peoples and this land, and recognize the historical and ongoing process and impact of colonization.

We commit to trying to decolonize therapy in ways including, but not limited to the following.

We are transparent about our own intersecting identities, privileges, and lived experiences.  We are aware of and try to minimize the inherent power dynamics within the client-therapist relationship.  We recognize that many “evidence-based” modalities weren’t created with BIPOC in mind, and that many of these modalities are rooted in ancestral BIPOC wisdom and practices.  We understand how colonial and systemic influences contribute to mental health.  We also recognize the limits of western counselling psychology, and the harmful impacts it can have, for instance often pathologizing normal, appropriate, and human responses to oppression and trauma.

We look forward to hearing from you!
